Alabama

FORTIFIED Discounts - Homeowners can qualify for insurance discounts by installing a FORTIFIED Roof or building a FORTIFIED Home™. Savings range from 20-55% off the wind portion of the property owner's insurance. Available for coastal and inland homeowners.


Additionally, Alabama provides commercial property owners statewide a discount on insurance rates for buildings using the FORTIFIED Commerical standard.


Strengthen Alabama Homes - Provides grants up to $10,000 to owners of existing homes to upgrade them to the FORTIFIED standard. There are no income limits or tests, and it opens quarterly to all residents with primary residence in Alabama. 


FORTIFIED Roof Endorsement - Insurers are required to offer an endorsement to a Homeowners policy to upgrade their home to an IBHS FORTIFIED Roof if it is damaged and needs replacing.

Retrofit Tax Deduction - Alabama provides residents a tax break when mitigating their homes or businesses to reduce wind or flood damage. Homeowners can deduct up to $3,000 or 50% of the cost of the work, whichever is less on their State taxes. FORTIFIED qualifies. 

Catastrophe Savings Accounts - Deposits made into an account labeled as catastrophe savings can be deducted from tax payer's gross income.

Opening Protection Insurance Discounts - Homeowners who show their insurer proof of installation of permanent storm shutters or impact-resistant glass on their dwelling to mitigate loss from hurricanes or other severe storms qualify for premium discounts.

Florida Administrative Code - Residential properties that installed fixtures or used construction techniques that have been demonstrated to reduce windstorm loss qualify for premium discounts on insurance. FORTIFIED qualifies.


Florida Wind Insurance Savings Calculator - Calculate insurance savings based on home features, planned upgrades, or added mitigation measures.


Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program - The Hurricane Loss Mitigation Retrofit Grant funds retrofits, inspections, and construction or modification of building components that are designed to increase the ability of a structure to withstand flooding and hurricane-force winds for residential, commercial, and mobile home properties. FORTIFIED qualifies.


Florida Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) - Provides financing for up to 100% of the costs for resiliency efforts made to residential or commercial property. Property owners repay the financing for the PACE improvements through a special assessment which is added to their property tax bill each year of an agreed-upon term. FORTIFIED qualifies.

The Residential Property Storm Mitigation Incentives Brochure - Louisiana homeowners qualify for insurance discounts and tax incentives for acting to make their homes stronger. FORTIFIED qualifies.


Voluntary Retrofit Tax Deductions - Homeowners qualify for up to $5,000 in tax deductions or half of the home's or half the costs of home retrofits, whichever is less. FORTIFIED qualifies. (Page 9-16E).

FORTIFIED Discounts - Homeowners can qualify for insurance discounts by installing a FORTIFIED Roof™ or building a FORTIFIED Home™. Savings range from 12-55% off the wind portion of the property owner's insurance. 

FORTIFIED for Safer Living Discounts - The Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association (MWUA) provides a minimum 40% insurance discount on homes that have been constructed and certified. There are discounts available for the homes that were FORTIFIED for Existing Homes. 


Free FORTIFIED Roof Endorsement -Eligible and renewing policies with MWUA can re-roof to FORTIFIED for free when a covered claim results in the replacement of 50 percent or more of a roof.

Wind Mitigation Insurance Discounts - MWUA policies may receive insurance discounts for wind mitigation construction in jurisdictions that have been graded with the Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS) for residential and commercial structures.

FORTIFIED Discounts - Wilmington Area homeowners can qualify for insurance discounts by installing a FORTIFIED Roof™ or building a FORTIFIED Home™. Savings range from 6-19% off the wind portion of the property owner's insurance.


Free FORTIFIED Roof Endorsement -Eligible policies with North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (NCIUA) can re-roof to FORTIFIED for free when a covered claim results in roof replacement.  


Other insurers offer FORTIFIED Roof endorsements, cost varies.


Strengthen Your Roof - NCIA provides grants up to $5,000 to help cover the upgrade to a FORTIFIED Roof if over 50% of your roof has been damaged.

South Carolina

FORTIFIED Discounts - Homeowners can qualify for insurance discounts by installing a FORTIFIED Roof or building a FORTIFIED Home™. Savings range from 10-35% off the wind portion of the property owner's insurance.17 insurers offer discounts. (Pages 5-6)  


Mitigation Insurance Discounts - Homeowners can save up to 25% off their insurance by making their home more "storm-resistant". FORTIFIED qualifies. (Page 3)


SC Safe Home - Provides up to $5,000 to homeowners to assist in strengthening their homes. FORTIFIED qualifies. 


Fortification Tax Credit - Residents can deduct up to $1,000 or 25% of the cost of making their home more hurricane-resistant. If any property was purchased to fortify a property, a resident can claim up to $1,500. FORTIFIED qualifies. 

Insurance Premium Tax Credit -Homeowners who pay more than 5% of their incomes towards insurance coverage on their legal residences can receive a tax credit up to $1,250 on their state income taxes.


Catastrophe Savings Account - Deposits made into an account labeled as catastrophe savings can be deducted from tax payer's gross income.

Texas

FORTIFIED Discounts - Homeowners can qualify for insurance discounts with a FORTIFIED designation through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) and some insurance companies. 


FORTIFIED can qualify for many other discounts such as opening protection, wind-resistant construction, and secondary water barrier. Contact your insurer and shop for your insurance.


Windstorm Inspection Program - All homes in certain areas of Coastal Texas must undergo an inspection to qualify for wind or hail insurance from TWIA.
