FORTIFIED Wise University is the online training platform for professionals who work in or alongside the FORTIFIED program. Courses are developed by IBHS and cover the construction standards, documentation requirements, and verification processes for FORTIFIED Home designation. Certification through FORTIFIED Wise is required to be listed in the FORTIFIED Provider Directory.
There are three certification tracks depending on your role. Each has a hurricane version and a high wind and hail version based on the region you work in.
FORTIFIED Roofing Contractor
For roofers and roofing companies who install roofs to the FORTIFIED standard. As of 2025, a certified FORTIFIED roofing contractor is required on every FORTIFIED Home project. At least one employee per company must hold a current certification. Prereqs include an approved roofing certification, a valid contractor or business license, at least seven years in business, and minimum insurance coverage.
FORTIFIED Evaluator
For independent third-party inspectors who verify and document FORTIFIED Home compliance. Evaluators are required on every residential FORTIFIED project. Without a certified Evaluator, there is no designation. This track covers how to inspect, document, and submit a project to IBHS for certification.
FORTIFIED Home Professional
For architects, engineers, builders, and other construction and design professionals who provide services to homeowners and project teams. This track covers FORTIFIED Roof, Silver, and Gold requirements in full. Note: roofing contractors should take the Roofing Contractor track, not this one.
